It was my first time at camp. I loved it. We went over rope bridges. It was awesome! We swam in the river with the eels. There was a rope so we could swing off the rope into the river. The eels were tickling my friend and me around our feet. It was deep. The best thing that we did was archery. We did lots of stuff, like walk around the Waihi gold mining hole. It took ages. We went to the museum and we did an egg toss.

Perspective

Room One have been learning about perspective drawing. First we drew line drawings, then line and tone, and then A3 coloured versions.

We learned about eye level, horizon, vanishing points and parallel lines. Some of us learned about two point perspective and even three point perspective.

Teacher Shake

We made our Glenview Shake video a couple of weeks ago. A couple of us wanted to make a Harlem shake with our teachers. So we went to Mr Mangan and asked him if he would lead the dancing. He said he would if ALL the teachers would do it.
Me and Ethan wrote an email to all the teachers and Mr F sent it to them. Eventually everybody agreed to do it, even Mrs Thorburn who has a sore foot.
So this morning, after assembly, teachers did the Harlem Shake. Thank you teachers for goofing around in front of all the kids and some parents were watching too.

It All Adds Up

Today when we did maths we did Scale Mapping then after that we did Xtramath. While we were waiting to go on we got to do math games. I used the Time Dominoes and made my name, with them and they all added up. I cheated with the “a” because I made a gap in the “a” even. Look at it.

Glenview Shake

In assembly last Friday Room 16 showed the whole school how they had been doing the Harlem Shake for fitness. We were so impressed that we decided to do a Glenview Shake of our own.

Later we got a message on twitter that Room 5 at Melville Intermediate had seen our Shake and wanted to reply. The made their own Shake video. You can see our video on the whiteboard in the background.

The Goggles Tree

We’ve been walking around Glenview Park to help get ready for the long walks on camp. It takes us about 15 minutes to go around once. It’s about 1km per lap. We worked out that we we can walk 4km in 1 hour.

Today we saw a pair of swimming goggles up in a tree. Simien climbed up to get them.

Will we need tree climbing skills at camp?

99% Swimming

At 9:20 this morning we went swimming in the pool. We hopped in and we were surprised that it was really warm. We held onto the rails and we did kicking for thirty seconds to build up our stamina, but we tried not to splash. After kicking we were a little bit tired.

We got called out in roll order in groups of four to see how well we could swim. We swam as fast as we could and tried to win.

Dallas slipped off the edge of the pool. His foot, knee and elbow were bleeding. His knee was purple. Erana was swimming with her eyes closed and banged her head. We had a breath holding competition and Alyssa won heaps of times.

Mr Fawcett let us have a class photo in the pool. Erana had to stand out because she is not allowed her photo on the Internet. Next we had free time. We played with noodles and flutter boards.

Finally it was time to get out of the pool so that Room 2 could get changed and have a turn. When we were lining up Keanu did a big, loud sneeze. We watched as the changing rooms emptied. The boys or the girls were really quick to get changed, but we’re not saying who. Can you guess?

The Lost Smile

Once upon a time there lived a 12 year old boy called Matthew. He had brown curly hair that never went straight, soft hazel eyes and a kind face, but he was unfortunately lacking in height, so when Matthew went to school he would get mocked by all of the other kids.

One day after school, Matthew was extremely sad. The school bully Alex had said he was no bigger than a blade of grass, Matthew was always getting insulted like this but this time he just cracked. He fled from the school grounds running faster than a helicopter.Once safely out of sight of the school he began to walk down the footpath towards his house. Suddenly it sprang on him, he had lost his smile. You may think losing your smile isn’t a big deal, well you’re wrong. Losing your smile can be very dangerous. You could lose it for weeks, months, even years and in the worst cases forever.

Later that night Matthew was getting scared. His smile had gone missing before but had come back after an hour or so, his smile had been gone for about 3 to 4 hours now. He decided to go to sleep and hope for the best.

Next morning when Matthew was walking to school he still had no luck with finding his smile. As he trudged along he passed a little girl in pigtails and a dress. She saw how glum he looked and asked “Why do you look so glum?”
“I have lost my smile and I can’t find it,” answered Matthew in despair.
“I know where your smile is.”
“Really,where?”
“Right here,” said the little girl as she gave him the biggest, brightest smile in the whole world.

Letter from the Queen

In the holidays I got a letter from the Queen’s lady in waiting. It came from Balmoral Castle in Scotland. Here’s a photo of it.

I waited a long time to get the letter. I wrote to say happy birthday and to say my birthday was close to hers.
